I was part of the income team in the finance department. I would attend meetings with the team or the other work experience students. I had time to work no my presentation for the end of the week. I would do more research on things that I did not understand in the meetings or find the definition of certain words for the next meeting.
I learnt more about what exactly M&G Investments does. I learnt how to book meeting sand reserve rooms that will help me in the future. I grew more confident and my communication skills also improved as I had to interact with other colleagues. Furthermore, I had to prepare a presentation that I would present to the other work experience students and workers.
I really enjoyed this experience as I got to experience the work world. All the workshops that were available helped me build my confidence in this professional environment.
I felt very valued at the company as I was constantly included in everyone's day to day business. I really appreciated how comfortable it felt to work at M&G Investments.
My programme was very organised. At the beginning of the week, I received a schedule with all the meetings and workshops that I had to attend. If there was anything added to the schedule, I would receive an email about it at my desk.
I received a lot of support from my advisor, who was on a the apprenticeship scheme. She would give me work to do that helped my knowledge to expand. She also helped me with terms that I did not understand in our meetings.
My manager helped with settling in the office. The whole Income team was really friendly towards me and the other work experience students. they helped us understand what exactly their jobs entitled them to do.
Due to only being a work experience student, I did not receive a salary. However, the company paid for my lunch and I had a reimbursement form to fill out for my transport.
There were events that everyone was invited such as a family fun day and a sports event. You end up becoming basically friends with your co-workers.
Yes
Everyone at M&G is very friendly and extremely welcoming. They are always willing to help and are generally good people. If you don't understand something, asking the workers is no problem at all
Do some research beforehand to show that you are genuinely interested about the company. Plan ahead for transport so that you are not constantly late or lost. Do not be shy as everyone will help you feel comfortable. Ask questions and research things you do not understand. Do not be afraid to make mistakes, you should just learn from them. Never stop learning.
