Working with the fixed income team from the finance department, shadowing analyst's and working with the investment team to understand their roles. Attended 1 meeting with a client to understand the approach of M&G when negotiating a deal.
I have learnt how to professionally deal with clients, and how to use excel in order to complete calculations
I enjoyed working within a team each day, and being a part of it. The company were very accommodating and gave me every opportunity to understand the day to day running of the business and how the team operate daily. It was a very big insight to finance which was enjoyable.
I felt valued, as each team member took time out of their day to allow me to shadow them and also explain the jobs they do on a daily basis. A visit from the head of global distribution of the company showed how willing the company were to accommodate me for the week, showing how each employee of M&G had sincere care for me as a work experience student and enhanced my experience due to this
I attended an induction meeting as I first arrived, with a pack to explain the standard confidentiality rules. Support was always available if there were to be any issues from the long term talent development team, we meet once/ twice a day every day I was there, putting on constant meetings and insight sessions. I was assigned a mentor within the specific team I was working with, who was supportive and gave me an overview of the business before meeting the team in order for me to be able to understand what the fixed income team specifically do. The programme was very well organised, I was given a sheet of my daily timetable, where insight sessions and schemes were put on for me to attend each day in order to fully obtain the best knowledge I could from M&G
I had a manager within the fixed income team who was always supporting me by co-ordinating meetings with the other members of the team. I was given constant guidance and I knew I had support whenever I needed it, I was told to ask as many questions as I could and each team member were very accommodating which enabled me to really enjoy my week at M&G
HR team were very supportive, along with my manager, who both organised activities for me to attend, they gave me guidance within my week by telling me about their past experiences and the attitude from both the HR team and my manager was great as I understood they really cared and had a compassion for my enjoyment
M&G paid for my travel and food
There are a few opportunities outside of work, where I was able to access shops on the street where the office was based, allowing me to go out during lunch breaks and see the city
Yes
It is a very well ran company who ar incredibly accommodating, they explain everything very clearly and the opportunity they provide is great, allowing you to shadow their employees in order to gain an insight into finance, for a student who is currently unsure about their next steps in their career this is undoubtedly very valuable as it has allowed me to decide whether or not finance is for me.
Ensure you are punctual and clear on which department you would like to join as there are so many
