I was a member of the EY Business Academy, working as part of a team in the Assurance section of EY. Day to day I would be doing "casting" for financial statements, which means I was responsible for checking that there were no mistakes and everything was consistent as well as getting to sit in on meetings.
I learned more IT skills such as techniques in Excel to streamline the work process as well as developing networking skills from speaking to people at all levels in the company.
I genuinely enjoyed the program as I was allowed to work on real client's and felt as though my work actually contributed to the team effort. The culture around the office was friendly and overall, a nice place to work.
As I was only there for a week, it's hard to say. However, I was recognised and appreciated whenever I finished a task and when I did something well I was congratulated and my impression is that if you work hard you will be valued by the company personally.
The programme is very clearly structed and overall is organised well. However I feel as though there were moments where there was a lack of communication which could be improved on. That being said, any time you pointed that out or had a query, the team was quick to inform everyone of the specifics.
I received more support than I was expecting. I sat next to them and any time I had a question or problem they instantly were there to help either personally or if they couldn't, to point out and find who could.
Any problem had was addressed, usually within the hour after sending an email with any query or problem. Support was easily accessible.
It easily covers the cost of transport and lunch with some left over.
As I was only there for a week, I didn't get a chance to personally experience any, however, everyone I spoke to told me about many social opportunities that are available.
Yes
I feel as though I learned a lot about the industry and finance as a whole that I could never have hoped to gain just from reading about it. I really enjoyed the experience and would do it again without hesitation, and that's without taking into account the great boost to the CV that it gives you.
I would say to be geniune and friendly and only apply if it's actually something you're considering. My personal advice would be to read up on the company and their mission as they appreciate when someone knows them as they seem more interested in the company.
