I took on the role of a tax assistant. Where I experienced a true daily experience of work. I worked with client information completing tax returns and info checks and had to be responsible for their data. I also had to interact with my team members in a weekly meeting and also got the opportunity to talk to senior staff about their experience at Ernst & Young
During this experience I got to experience fully what it is like to work in a business environment which helped me learn how to act in a professional environemnt. It also assisted with boosting my confidence levels and taught me all about the business world and working for one of the biggest firms!
This week of work experience (the Business Academy) was easily the best year of 2018 that I had. I met new friends along the way, my fellow Academy students, and also was assigned to a buddy who made the experience what it was. it gave a true sight into the businesses culture and showed of it's social side in full shine! I wasn't sure what to expect at first but I am confident that this was the best opportunity I could have asked for! I would give this 11 stars if I could.
When starting I wasn't sure if I would work as an employee (instead just getting coffee and watching how its done). but in the first hour of day one I was made almost at home in the office. I was given a buddy in a team, which helped MASSIVELY, and was given my own laptop and desk which made me feel like I was trusted. I was allowed to work by myself on clients and complete returns and prep letters but still had the opportunity to get help from my buddy who sat next to me at all times. I really felt like a was a valued member of EY
The first day of the Academy allowed us to get used to our new equipment and were given a tour of the office, which helped us later find the printers. we met our buddies and counsellors. we were given a tiemtable for the week, which had required locations if needed, so it allowed us to move freely and prevent us from getting lost! we were given oppertunities to talk to apprentices and senior staff about their opportunities and life at EY. on the last day we also went out for a meal with everyone!
At the start of the week I was given a buddy who helped me throughout the week when I got stuck. He taught me very well on how to do everything for day to day work and without him I would have had ZERO idea on what to do. so definitely the training providers were exceptional.
The whole Academy were given counsellors who gave us opportunities to talk to higher people in the business and without them I would have not had the opportunities I had during the week. During the week a few tech issues popped up but our counsellor helped us get past them fast and easily which made the experience fell even more professional and organised.
Since it was only a weeks work experience and given my age, there were little costs that occured during the programme. The salary was fair and an added bonus as normally work experience isn't paid! The daily costs were minimal as Monday, Wednesday and Friday food was paid for as we went out as a team. So I definitely think that the wage out-weights the costs of the experience
Since my experience was only a week long there were not any event that i was able to attend. However, on the friday a dress down event was organised for the whole office which gave it a friendly feel to work. Also I met with Apprentices where they talked about their time at EY and also got to see senior staff about the growth of Ernst & Young and their time here!
Yes
The work experience was very fun and as an added bonus was paid!
