I was an intern at an audit department, I had to perform retail market analysis, using comparable evidence and market evidence. Working with the team members in meetings was also quite integral throughout the program, and I was responsible for filling out some spreadsheets to be used later and compile evidence to be used in meetings. In addition, I had to have a high punctuality every day and in also interact with the members of the team in order to ensure that the tasks were done at the most efficient manner to ensure the task is done correctly and I partook in multiple projects and also sat in numerous meetings.
I gained a level 2 CMI in Team Leading which is an adult qualification in team-leading which allowed me to develop my team leading skills, and allowed for me to catalyse the development of my other skills of communication and time-management. These skills can be applied in everyday life and situations for example communication skills are integral in everyday life, in terms of work and also home/school life as it allows for ideas to be transferred easily and it allows for things to be done more efficiently and within the workplace and school as well, it helps develop your team working and presentation skills, which are becoming ever more important in our world.
I enjoyed the business insight week as it allowed for me to have an insightful approach to working life through the exposure to the audit department I was placed in. I also enjoyed the team meetings I participated in as it made me feel like I was part of the firm and the firm met my expectations. Further, I enjoyed the program due to the fact that there was plenty of opportunity for me to develop in plenty of aspects in my life, such as socialising and skills which can be used in the work place. Furthermore, during the business insight week, I was exposed to various meetings and aspects of the department I was in.
From my 'buddy' and the team throughout the week, I was included in various meetings and talks for the team and generally felt very involved with the team and what it does and the team recognised my hard work and highly valued me. To be more specific, the team that I was placed with within EY made me feel like I was already part of the team, and this morale was reinforced by things such as going to lunch with my team.
The induction was well organised, as well as the training but some parts such as support and studying have room for improvement as sometimes it was slightly disorganised. To be more specific, in the times where there weren't supervisors the program was difficult to be continued with no distractions, and the actual program itself though, was well thought through and a lot of planning and time was put into the program to give us a fun-filled but also educational
I didn't have any particular problems throughout the program but they presented to me. My training provider mainly coordinated most of the smart futures programme and provided me with a lot of support, as well as my peers. As we were a large group, there were plenty of opportunities for problems to arise with so many people.
EY offered a range of help lining services, and my managers helped me with tasks I didn't get. More specifically, when working within the business insight week, my employer provided me with plentiful support, in unison with my buddy and mentor as when I also found any tasks difficult, my mentor made sure to make me understand how to do the task correctly and/or how to improve.
Good, although cost of travel was expensive. The main costs I had throughout the three weeks of the initial part of the programme were mainly just food and travel, which were then later well subsidies by the salary/package that was given to us shortly after the middle of the second week.
Yes were alumni events that only occurred after the program.
Yes
Very insightful and educational to partake in and was fun as well as sociable.
