I am a work experience student for a weeks placement. In the mornings I go to presentations about how the firm is run/its structure ect. and also get involved in group activities such as mock tribunals. In the afternoons I spend time with my supervisor, reading through legal documents and bibles ect.
Yes I have learnt many new skills this week. Firstly, I have been creating executive summaries for long documents to send to clients. This has helped me to learn how to write information in a more concise and simple manner. I have also learnt the definitions of many new legal words.
I have really enjoyed the morning group activities as I have been able to engage with all of the other students and learn a lot more about the firm. The afternoons with supervisors have been challenging, but this is what makes them enjoyable. Its been fun reading about different cases and trying to create executive summaries for them.
I feel quite valued when I am helping my supervisor with a task that means that they don't have to do it themselves. However, sometimes I feel that I am a nuisance to people if I keep asking for work to do while they are busy.
On the first day, I was given a detailed summary of the week ahead. It had all of the times and names of the presentations and the people who were delivering them. The week was very well structured and all of the plans were followed perfectly. I enjoyed reading ahead to see what the rest of the week entailed!
I have received a lot of support from my supervisor when I am carrying out a task for them. If I have any questions or if I am struggling to complete it, they are happy to come over and provide guidance.

I have not been paid for this week of work experience.
During my week here I have not experienced any of these opportunities. However, I have been told that there are lots of clubs that can be joined and lots of activities that you can get involved in. These range from sports such as netball to evenings and meals out together as a team.
Yes
The office has a very positive and happy environment, everyone is willing to help and respond to any questions that you have. It is a very well established firm and the career progression ladder is clear.
I would tell people to write about all of the work experience that they have had and how this has improved their skillset. Also, when they are at the firm they should be confident and not hesitate to ask questions whenever they are unsure about a task.
