Buisness Insight Week Review

The business insight week consisted of general shadowing of working personal and attending meetings. We learnt about different ongoing projects from employees across a range of sectors and conducted our own projects in groups of 10. The beginning Monday consisted of an induction and receiving our laptops. From Tuesday to Thursday I was with another student and a Mentor only a year senior and Friday was presentation day where we met up with our group of 10 initially met on the induction.

The Buisness Insight Week provided an opportunity to learn about the business industry, the different sectors and individual roles within the sectors; how the small roles come together to fulfill the bigger objective. In addition to the technical knowledge we developed existing soft skills working in our groups such as communication and teamwork in addition to presentation skills.

The general experience was amazing. Meeting so many different people with different experiences in itself was invaluable. The work culture was positive and there was a sense of community. Everyone was welcoming making the learning more enjoying. Generally expected the program to be quite sedentary working on excel but there was plenty of chance to be proactive and attend meetings.

Pwc really value their employees and despite only being their for a short period, we were treated as genuine employees. From the laptops and access to all the systems to the manner in which other staff conducted themselves with us. There was also recognition within the tasks themselves (daily emails with star bloggers) and prizes for great work.

The week was structured in the following manner; Day 1 - Induction meeting our project teams for the week Day 2-4 - Working with assigned buddies conducting a series of tasks for them or working on our group projects when free Day 5 - Presentation day. A review of the week, finishing of presentations and presenting in itself. Alot of it was structured by our team buddies and sometimes due to their schedule we were informed about particular meetings on the spot.

Support was always available if needed and we were given information as to who to contact if necessary. Our assigned buddy was the first line of contact and they supported as thoroughly informing us when we were puzzled in meetings and generally answering any questions we had. Although there was no technical training.

Both the employer and training provider were Pwc and so the support is the same. All employees were positive and happy to help, even when not assigned with us. Everyone was friendly and approachable and help was always available whether it was in first person or online using google hangouts.

The Salary provided was extremely generous considering we were only undergraduates in addition to being temporary employees. The salary was enough to cover all the daily costs necessary such as travel and food. It was a competitive salary which met the standard of the location (the location being inner London)

There are plenty of opportunities outside of work to socialise, volunteer and do what you are passionate about. There are many clubs within the company and there is an amazing voluntary initiative in which every employee has 40 hours of volunteering hours allocated to them. Everyone is generally very socialable and the Higher Apprentices are brought in as cohorts so they generally organise their own events as well.

The general experience as a whole was amazing. Pwc have a very welcoming team with several opportunities to do what you are passionate about and progress. It is great to put down on your cv and personal statements (as they are one of the big four), they provide a generous salary and amazing support.

I would say without a doubt don't hesitate to apply. It's an amazing chance to learn a lot and even if you initially thought working for someone like Pwc wasn't for you, by the end of the program you may see yourself applying for their school leaver or degree apprenticeships. Be yourself and always ask questions, it's the best way to learn.
