I was a customer assistant for 2 months for my work experience, this entailed working behind the tills and scanning groceries, stacking shelves, helping out customers if they needed an item and had to move items in the warehouse. I interacted with customers daily and also had a good relationship with the other staff, breaks were quite short.
There was no qualifications to be learnt but my confidence developed when I spoke to the customers and learnt more about the store and groceries, I also learnt health and safety regulations and the standards the food had to be handled with, but overall my social skills did the biggest increase
The work was interesting and was always changing daily, which made the work more fun to do and more enjoyable, the team were very friendly which helped me settle in, the customers were also very friendly and I was told if I had problems with any of them then the manager would help so the team was very friendly, overall it was very enjoyable
I feel valued because I had my own responsibilities and the staff team were amazing to work with, the manager gave me a tour herself which helped me understand it a lot more, and I was very involved in the tasks although I was there for a month, and the customers being happy made me feel valued.
The training didn't seem organised, just a tour and a quick run down from the manager, but was also very interesting and taught me a lot about the store. The tasks were clear to me and I was given a timetable which was mainly followed which is very organised, not always followed though.
I received a lot of support and enjoyed it a lot, they were happy to take me on for my work experience and never made me feel unwelcomed, and was told that if I had any trouble I could speak to the manager, they never made me feel like a burden which was much appreciated
I received the most amount of support from the manager and the other customer assistants who were there which made my experience enjoyable, the staff were lovely and they knew how to speak and be friendly without going off task too much, I was told I could speak to the HR team whenever but never did
It was work experience so I didn't get any pay.
There was local community things I was invited to, but never went, and when I wasn't working I was studying
Yes
Because the work space and environment was great, very comforting and made me feel welcome for the short time I worked there, and although I was only there for a short amount of time I received the college discount card which was great, you also get a second one for friend/family member
Good luck! I wish I did more research so I could've prepared myself better, and don't be scared, you need to be sociable since you help a variety of customers so you need confidence and the ability to speak up and clearly, it's also very rewarding to see when you helped a customer, which is a small deed but still makes you happy
