I am a R&D (research and development) apprentice. I have been doing placements around R&D to find out what i enjoy so i can focus on those areas in the last years of the apprenticeship.
I have learn how to work in a team and communicate with diffrent people. Have been learning diffrent skills from testing equipment to c# programming
I enjoy my program as i have the freedome to choose what areas i work in and what type of engineering i do. e.g. software, hardware, project planning, etc.
I do feel valued by siemens as they have taken intrest in my learning. i have been invited out on a few events which envolve going around the UK.
At the start there was a basic structure as they had never had the current department apprentices before but then after a few week they sorted out a plan for me to go round R&D and participate in placements in many of the diffrent teams and find out what type of work i enjoy and would like to specilise in. Then for rest of the apprenticeship i can work in the team i want to doing the type of work i enjoy.
I get more support from the company than the college which is focused on the study part.
I recive support from the company as they are happy to help with my training and offer time off if i need that time to study.
The salary is coping with my cost. not sure what it is compared to the normal standard in this type of apprenticeship. I do get pay rises every year.
