Working with trainee solicitors in different departments such as corporate, property, employment law etc. Doing research tasks, drafting documents etc. In the mornings listening to presentations by trainee solicitors and other solicitors on topics such as entry to law, as well as group led activities such as business group exercises and the mock employment tribunal.
Developed analysis skills, improved CV writing skills, bettered communication. Activities where working in a team was required such as the mock employment tribunal. Learning how to think quickly to solve problems and find out information. Developed independent working skills as often you have to undertake tasks on your own and think and research for yourself.
Parts were more engaging than others. Group activities are most engaging as it can trigger debate especially in the mock employment tribunal. Research tasks for example are enjoyable as you are learning as you go, giving an insight into the daily work of a solicitor or a trainee solicitor in this case.
Felt very valued by the company who seemed pleased to help and showed genuine interest. For example, all of the people we came into contact with were keen to find out what we were currently doing, how we were finding our time at the company and what our future aspirations were.
Very well structured, mainly well organised. At the start of the week we received timetables for the whole work experience programme so there was no confusion. Rooms and supervisors werre always organised for us in advance. There was always someone willing to provide work for us to do so there was never time when there was nothing to do.
Lots of support when needed. Supervisors were always willing to answer questions, always keen for us to ask for help and to ask for more work if there was little to do. The supervisors were also very helpful in going through my CV as well, giving me tips and examples as well as giving me advice for future applications etc.
There was support from the HR team at the beginning of the week by outlining everything in the programme. Always encouraged to not avoid asking questions, support in giving advice about future career decisions. There were times when there was no one specific running the programme however the supervisors were effective in managing the programme with logistics and setting tasks etc.
