On a day to day I perform audit work in EY, this involves preforming walkthroughs to better understand business, testing accounts for assurance and completing legal forms. I often work either in the main office or on client site, which can be anywhere in the UK however its mainly London
I've learnt so much while working with in EY, understanding businesses in general, in terms of how they operate and function. Getting a better understanding of both how accounting work and why, a great example being double entry accounting. I've also gained a huge amount of confidence working with in teams and in public speaking
I enjoy the programme a lot, I'm constantly learning new things and meeting/interacting with new people and/or teams. This keeps my job feeling interesting and fresh, I also learn about computing in my degree, which is something I'm really passionate about and therefor really enjoy learning about
The programme is well organised and structured, I know what teams I'm on months in advance and I'm aware of my study dates and what I'm learning a year in advance. Their is a clear hierarchy of support for me ,involving a buddy and a councillor as well as the managers/seniors on my day to day teams.
I receive lots of support from my employer, all my books and learning materials are paid for, its very clear who my contacts are if I have a problem or need to discuss something and overall my experience so far has been great as any problems I've dealt with such as needing time off or struggling with learning.
I receive lots of support from my training provider, with 2 workshops per term, constant contact and support from tutors, and a great online platform to learn on. There is also a clear structure of support from the training provider with quarterly meetings with a skills coach to discuss my progress
My qualification is towards a degree in digital and technological solutions, this means I am able to constantly apply what I learn while studying to my work place, in order to try and solve problems in an efficient way using technology, this can involve analytics, setting up group calls or creating a new program from scratch.
There are tons of opportunities to socialise and network with in the apprenticeship, There are 4 socials a year for you work place team, as well as 2 socials a year for apprentices them selves. There are sports team such as football or hockey to join and on day to day work you can often go out with your team on a Friday.
Yes
So far I have had an amazing experience with in the company and the opportunity to work for EY while studying towards the degree is one that cant be missed. The exposure to the finance industry not only teaches you a lot but also gives you invaluable experience which you can apply to any job/role moving forward.
Take your time in assessment centres and interviews, their not looking to catch you out, its the opposite they want to hire you but cant hire everyone, show them your skills and what your capable of to prove they should pick you over anyone else. Make sure to dress smart and be polite, make an effort to socialise with people when possible as it shows you'll be able to do that with in the company but most importantly show that your a team player and willing to ask questions.
