My role consists of the maintenance of Frankley water work treatment on a mchanical level. This means anything along the process that is mechanically driven and is not functioning proparly is to be assesed by myself or my mentor and worked on accordingly. If not this then I am working towards my NVQ lvl 3 and my BTEC.
I have learnt many skills regarding mechanical and electrical engineering along with even programming. Some examples would be the use of a range of tools correctly and effectivly along with many more theoretical aspects such as the strengths of materials such as shear and tensile strain upon all materials I work with.
The enjoyment of the programme has majorly picked up since the end of college training to the point where I enjoy day to day work and the challanges it provides. Each day is different and the people around me are very supportive of any decisions I make regading my work.
When I had a site transfer it began as very difficult as there was not much warning of my arrival, however once I had settled in and a programme was formed it became much easier to structure my college work and my on site training to become a full mechanical engineer.
My employer is willing to assist me with any needs to the best of their ability and I'm encouraged to ask for any of this assistanc eif needed. All my previous attempts to get support hav been sucessful and even though responces are sometimes delayed they always help in the end.
I have been allcoated as much time as I need from my training provider to complete any qualification work. However at times far too much time is given for very small amounts of work allowing for procrastination and lack of work to be done over large portions of the working day.
The qualification provides alot of theory that can and should be usewd on a daily basis through my role, however there is a large amount of the qualification that does not apply to my role. An example of this would be the BTEC Health and safety being very helpful in information yet the storag of tools not as much as this is learnt better on the job.

Severn trents apprentiship scheme is full through with great potential for all of the employees that put effort in. This allows for so much personal growth along with the proper start to a long lasting career in the industry. The support and guidance you have is clear and the job itself is usually enjoyable.
I would advice that they apply for somthing that they would want to do and be happy with for the 3 year apprentiship. I would simply say to be yourself and allow the opportunitys to present themselves once on board, it is simple to apply and understand the job role you are applying for and you are clearly guided through the process, if you fail they provide feedback on how to improve so there are no bad aspects to applying.
