My job role is working within Accounts Payable for Severn Trent. I am tasked with processing incoming invoices and credit notes. This process includes: scanning physical invoices produced by suppliers, manually inputting data into our accounting provider, and matching the Purchase Orders with the correct invoice. When my task is completed, the invoice should be receipted.
I have learnt many skills whilst in my current role. Firstly, communication skills are very important as I am tasked with contacting suppliers via email and telephone. In addition, I have a better understanding of how all the different departments within finance work together to complete task, and how the teams help to create a awesome service.
I really enjoy my programme, it has given me the opportunity to work in a professional environment with more experienced colleagues. in addition, I have a platform with I can progress upon, working has helped me to advance my studies and understand how the new things I am learning are applied everyday.
The organisation has a great structure with regards to the programme, I have a good understandings of my placements within finance, and how they correlate with my studies. Also, the organisation, sets out a study programme which allows me to understand how I am progressing within the programme, I feel I benefit from this.
Throughout my programme I have received vast amounts of support form the organisation, the benefit of studying whilst working within the finance department is that everyone has completed the same exams as you have. This provides a good support network as I feel that I can ask anyone if I have an outstanding query.
The support from my training provider is fantastic. They offer unlimited support throughout the working week, this is great as any query I have can be resolved quickly. The training provider also provides an additional support scheme if an exam is not passed "pass guarantee", this is very helpful indeed.
I have only been studying my qualification for several months, but I feel the qualification has helped me a great deal when relating back to my job role. I understand the basic tasks of each department and what they are set out to achieve. I also have a better understanding of how my role is effecting the whole department.
There are lots of extra-curricular activities at Severn Trent. I am currently participating in "The Finance Environmental Sustainability Group", which is a great networking platform. Also, throughout the summer, the company offers sporting activities like cricket, which is fantastic. Finally, the organisation provides many different training schemes such as presentational skills, and even driving safety.
Yes
I would recommend Severn Trent to a friend as the offer unconditional support whilst you battle through our studies. The organisation offers a very friendly and welcoming workplace, which allows me to excel in my role. Finally, if you want to create a career, Severn Trent is a great place to do so, as the offer so much for the employee to progress.
I would definitely recommend to any others that apply to just be yourself whilst applying. The company will appreciate your personality through the applying stages. Try to ask lots of questions which you are interested to find the answers to. Finally, just enjoy the experience, you are selling yourself to the company, have fun with it, show them why you are the right person for the job.
