  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Every day I would do things that I was trained to do (by others) that would have things to do with my job role. These things would take a certain amount of time to do and I did them within said time to the best of my ability. Thank you.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes. I learnt several different skills. Some of these skills were specific to my job role. The other skills were not specific to my job role. But that does not necessarily mean that these latter skills were not useful. For example, some of these skills helped me on my every day life.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I would say that my program or apprenticeship was in some ways interesting and enjoyable. In other ways I found it less so interesting and enjoyable. Overall I felt that I was feeling like I enjoyed less of my program or apprenticeship more than I actually did enjoy my apprenticeship.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My apprenticeship in many ways had very little structure in regards to my training and development. I would say that this was the case because this apprenticeship program was the first launched by the new talent team to have a certain ‘standard’. I found this very frustrating on a day to day basis.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I feel that I was given some support along the journey of my apprenticeship especially towards the start. However support was totally cut off from the new talent team following the first few months of the apprenticeship. Managers are not held to account for making sure their apprentices are trained and monitored properly.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider was fairly good. Some members of staff were often accessible via email and phone calls which I appreciated. However, they were pretty new to the style of training resources being used. Especially the online resource Onefile. Overall however I was happy with response times and helpfulness offered.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The college component of my apprenticeship offered by EFF was absolutely atrocious. They taught us completely irrelevant content for several months and applied in due pressure on us to make sure this work was complete. I found this experience really stressful and useless. However, the apprenticeship got better once it focused on our specific role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • No, at least none that I was interested in.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Severn Trent to a friend?
  • No

  • 9b. Why?
  • The money is pretty good and the work can be enjoyable most of the time. The benefits offered are also hard to find elsewhere. But I would never recommend taking a Severn Trent apprenticeship to a friend. The experience was so stressful compared to joining the company of your own accord or as a contractor.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Severn Trent?
  • I can’t think of any advice to offer.
