My role as a Systems Engineer within the Systems Safety team is to model the functionality of a chosen system and derive safety requirements that will help make up the overall safety case for the Wholeship systems. I am currently working of the modelling for the T26 Gas Turbine system.
I have learnt how to communicate better with members of other teams that we are working with in order to gain a holistic view of the chosen system. I have also become proficient in my use of modelling tools such as Enterprise Architect or Microsoft Visio and their combined benefits for creating child diagrams
I have enjoyed my programme greatly as I have been able to learn a lot from my colleagues while also being able to be involved in higher education. This has given me the chance to improved my technical knowledge and earn myself a degree all while gaining invaluable experience within the workplace.
There is a clear and concise structure to my programme which is fully shown and described to us by our training officer. They also ensure that we keep on track for all of our essential tasks and are there to if we are in need of any assistance throughout our programme
Our employer is always there to support us. We have been given the opportunity to pursuit higher education all while working within different teams throughout the company. Within all of our placements, we have been given a lot of time to complete our educational requirements and given help with our work tasks as well.
Our training provider is always available for advice on how to complete our requirements and gives us the necessary tools and contacts in order to increase our knowledge and understanding of the tasks required. We are also kept on track in case our standards start to slip while always being encouraging.
The information that I have received for the qualification training and the tasks I have undertaken in order to complete my tasks have given me a basis of knowledge that has allowed me to perform at a high level in my work. This is due to being given great advice as to how I can best learn from my colleagues.
There are many activities that apprentices can be involved in. I have participate in 5 a side football tournaments, a weeks course with Outward Bound, many networking events and many exciting and rewarding charity events that have allowed me to grow and develop as an engineer and as a person.
Yes
I would, and have, recommended BAE Systems to my friends. I believe it is an exciting and challenging place to work where you are given a great deal of support and offered many exciting opportunities to further both your knowledge base and your career aspirations. I continue to fully enjoy my work and the team around me.
I would advise any future applicants to make sure they are willing to work hard and learn from the people around them, ask questions and show a vested interest in their work and the people around them, grasp all the various opportunities that are given to them and never take their opportunities for granted.
