  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a day to day basis my role involves supporting the delivery and manufacture of parts relating to the nuclear reactor on a submarine. This involves ensuring that the parts arriving to the facility are on time and match our quality expectations, and the products leaving our facility match the expectations of those next in the assembly line.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt lots and lots and lots of new skills during my time on this apprenticeship scheme. I have also developed lots of previously existing skills I have learned in the past. These skills are nurtured on a day-to-day basis by engaging with the work in my placement at the moment.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am currently quite enjoying my time on the programme at the moment, as I have had a wide range of placements throughout the business in various teams, some large and some small. This has allowed me to network with lots and lots and lots of people, which makes the job more interesting.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme on the whole is quite well structured to a certain degree, with a clear path towards the attainment of a level 5 qualification and exit role within BAE Systems Submarines. If we have any questions regarding the scheme or the path we are on, most of them are answered fairly quickly.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We receive a reasonable amount of support from our employers. Most of the time however, we are left to our own devices, although that is not necessarily a bad thing. If we have any questions regarding the scheme or the path we are on, most of them are answered fairly quickly.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The training providers provide us with quite alot of support during our studies and are generally very quick to respond to any queries we have. On the rare occasion we have had something negative to complain about, the issue has been dealt with very very very well and to a satisfactory level.

  • Yes

  • BAE Systems Submarines has excellent employee satisfaction and generally high wages. There are lots of opportunities for progression for those who are ambitious, and those who work hard are rewarded. The qualifications you can receive at BAE Systems Submarines are also an excellent opportunity to further your own knowledge and understanding.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
  • For anyone who is applying to BAE Systems Submarines or considering applying for roles within BAE Systems Submarines, I would give several pieces of advice and a few tips. Appliers should research BAE Systems Submarines thoroughly before applying for roles within the company, as BAE Systems Submarines is very large and complex.
