My role involves being on a rotation of 4 month placements to gain an overview of project management within the business. Currently, I will be shadowing team members, understanding the key principles of project management and where this fits in the business. I will also take on small projects within each placements under the supervision of a placement manager.
So far, the apprenticeship has definitely aided me in completing my degree in project management, as the placements effectively mirror what we are learning on the course. It has definitely increased my confidence in a work environment and knowledge of what it's really like to work within a team.
The combination of the degree and experience through work is something that I definitely enjoy. I think it's well structured with placements of just the right amount of time. We also have good support form Line managers and early careers staff. I have also enjoyed the extra stretch activities that we have the opportunity to get involved in.
I think our programme is very well structured. There are many people we can go to with issues regarding the work its self, college work and our own wellbeing. The placements so far have definitely given me good exposure to what project management is all about and where I fit into that.
We have several means and lines of support from our employer. Monthly and 12 week reviews by separate areas of support allow us to reach out if we have any issues in our placements and college work and help to track and support our progress in all areas. We are also provided college support through our employers.
Both of our college tutors provide us support in our degree modules and with the APM PFQ. We also have an allocated mentor in college who we can go to for extra support with work content and managing the workload. Tutors are also quick to respond to emails with questions.
I think that our qualification is extremely beneficial to performance within my apprenticeship. A lot of the early content of the degree that we have gone through, directly links to work I have been given in my role. I think that has definitely given me a head start in the business.
We are given plenty of opportunities to get involved with extra stretch activities in this business. For instance setting up STEM related activities and competitions for KS2 and KS3 pupils. We can also get involved with activities that support charities and support mental wellbeing throughout the business and provide support for this.
Yes
I think that the business offers well thought through schemes, is reasonable of what is expected of you as an apprentice, supports you through a funded degree and provides a good wage for the workers. It is also extremely supportive of your health and mental health and is extremely catering to any extra support of needs required.
I would say to research the company and find out what else they offer other than the job role and wage. The company has plenty of things to offer that I wasn't aware of before stating the business. I would also say to look into the qualifications on offer and what you will be doing when you start the business.
