I move around the business on 4 month placements working within different areas and functions including planning and risk. I join a team and learn about their role in the business and what they do on a day to day basis. I attend team meetings and get involved with the projects they are currently working on. The team give me tasks to complete that contribute to the deliverables of the team. The team may also set up a mini project for me to manage.
Yes. I feel I have a greater appreciation for the business and the engineering world as a whole. I have massively increased my confidence and people skills. Everyday I learn something new. The programme has enabled me to make new friends and great networks in the business. My IT are developing and improving daily.
So far I have really enjoyed the programme, I am so glad I came to work and study with BAE instead of going to university. I look forward to coming to work each day and seeing what's in store for me. I would highly recommend this programme to others. I especially enjoy going to college/uni on an Thursday. I am very happy here.
I think it is structured really well and the process of moving around every 4 months seems to be very effective. We have monthly meetings with our placement manager and with other apprentices on the same scheme. We have 12 weekly reviews to check our progress in our placements and at college/uni.
you receive as much support as you require. The early careers team make it clear that they are always available should we need them and they are regularly in contact with us. I find the monthly meetings with my placement manager most useful as I feel comfortable to talk about any struggles or anything work/none work related. Even when I am bot at work I still feel supported by the early careers team. They have organised events/talks for us to attend about important topics such as drug awareness and how to handle our finances. We always get a quick response when we reach out for help. But at the same time if you don't require any additional support and are happy the way you are the early careers don't smother you but still keep an eye out.
lots of support. XXX and XXX offer lots of support in lessons and are always checking we understand the things they are teaching and will happily go over things as many times as we need to make sure we understand. They have given us their emails so we can contact them out of college hours with any queries or questions we have. They also upload all of the materials used in lessons to the website so we can access it and go over anything we like.
Nearly everything we have learnt at college/uni I have been able to relate it back to work and even use techniques I have developed. We are taught about the software we use at work which helps improve out IT skills and understanding of the job. WE have discussion at college about the 'real world' and how current affairs may have an impact on the business. and whenever possible XXX and XXX will use examples from BAE to help explain things to us.
Yes, lots. Through work I have become a STEM ambassador and am currently working with a team to organise a STEM based competition for local schools to take part in. We have the opportunity to attend the communication or risk events and professional project management conferences. Through work I also have the opportunity to become a chartered project manager
Yes
This is a great choice apposed to going to university. You don't end up in debt, you get a useful degree, you have job security at the end, you have influence over your development and progression through the business and gives you a taste of what 'real life' is along with its responsibilities and realities. You earn while you learn and it really does set you up for the future. The opportunities BAE offers are second to none and you can't find them anywhere else.
Go for it! don't hold back whatsoever! Do your research and make sure you pick an apprenticeship that is appealing to you and can offer you the most rom to grow and develop. Also pick a function that you want to explore and can imagine yourself doing as a full time job. You really have nothing to lose. Yes the money is very tempting and drives a lot of people to apply, but the support and opportunities BAE offers are much more valuable.
