  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Completing different Project Management tasks and learning new skills daily. I am always given monthly tasks to do as well as individual projects and tasks with a day out at uni once a week where I get to socialise with people outside the business and learn new skills and advice.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes lots of new IT skills and using different systems I haven't used in a while. This is to complete new pieces of work that I have been given which will give me the confidence when moving around the business to feel like I can complete a range of tasks.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am always looking forward to come into work and I enjoy the work I do. I get to network with other employees and apprentices in different years to gain a better understanding of the apprenticeship and to make sure I am completing my tasks to the expected level of me.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • There is a clear structure that is easy to understand and follow. We have clear plans set out to us so we know what exactly is expected of us and by what dates they need to be done by. Nothing is a surprise to me which I see as a benefit.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Lots of support for both Uni work and placement work. They are always there to provide support to me. They have many different people on hand in different areas to support me with the work I do and just in general work life for any issues or concerns I may have.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Lots they offer different support and assist you with the worklife balance. They offer different support and software to help you. They definitely don't make you feel like you have no support and that you are completing this on your own with regular catch ups and meetings about the qualification.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • A lot as I am gaining the relevant skills techniques and tools that I need in order to work to the standard required of me. Without this I feel I would be falling behind in the workplace and I wouldn't be working to the standard I am now which is the standard required.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes lots of social and networking events with the opportunity to join sports teams. We have regular events to network with other apprentices to discuss work and uni work to make sure we are all on the same page and are all working to the standard required. They make us feel included and welcome.

  • 9a. Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • They are a great employer with lots of benefits who provide a lot of support to us. The scheme is a great way to improve lots of skills which I don't believe I would get anywhere else. The company offers a range of opportunities not just work related but outside of work.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
  • To go into everything with an open mind and give everything they offer to you a go. They offer lots of different opportunities to run with your own projects and ideas and support you in all that they offer. It is definitely something that I would encourage to anyone joining.
