  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a day to day basis in this role it depends heavily on the stage of the course you are at. In the first year we studied the EASA modules 8:30-4 and into the second year we moved over to mechanical and electrical workshops and then eventually onto the aircraft before moving to base.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a lot of new skills during this course as I have developed hand skills on different kind of things such as sheet metal and will be moving onto composite materials also. Book keeping has also been improved whilst I have been here as it is very important in this job.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy this programme a lot as it allows you to work on incredible aircraft and meet lots of new people. It has taught me a lot about myself and how to deal with difficult individuals. I am mostly excited about the future that this role allows you to achieve.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • This course is not well organised as you do not really know what the next day will bring at the moment. The course that I am on is new and so the planning still needs work but the communication in this role is perhaps the main issue for me at the moment.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification is the main thing that motivates me in this role as it allows me to lead an incredibly successful career and I am able to go in to whatever job I want to in the future. The qualification is something that is very difficult to achieve and so it is widely respected.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are a few extra curricular activities that BAE provide to the apprentices here. You can also be a STEM ambassador which means you can visit schools to tell others about your apprenticeship.

  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend this apprenticeship to a friend because it has opened up a lot of opportunities for me, given me friends for life and has taught me life skills that I wouldn't have learnt otherwise. I am hopeful it will allow me to have a great career in the future.
