Quantity Surveyor Review

My role varies from department but mainly involves overseeing the procurement process of projects from initiation to completion. This includes issuing contracts, scoring evaluations, scheduling meetings with clients, attending consensus meetings to evaluate tenders for the successful bidder to start works. The change of departments will allow me to develop a vast range of skills over the years.

I have developed a vast range of new skills and also worked and developed on my old skills. These include skills such as team-working and client care. being involved in various different teams, I was able to network effectively and develop communication skills. Dealing with supplier on a daily basis has certainly helped with my professionalism.

This programme is very enjoyable and you learn so much whilst doing it. There are lots of transferrable skills that can be used in future and day-to-day life. These transferrable skills have ben developed through the work placements as well as the academic studies. Because the programme is enjoyable it makes the whole learning experience enjoyable as sometimes learning can be seen as a negative or daunting experience.

The programme has had a few teething problems to begin with such as the structure of the assignment work, the resources that we were given weren't very accurate etc., but once it was up and running, it is structured well and there are a lot of opportunities for development and the resources as well.

The support that I get from my employer is amazing. there is virtually unlimited training resources in areas that I need developing and the way in which to request the relevant training is seamless. My employers give me lots of opportunity to change departments but also give me the time to focus on my study too.

in the first instance, there were a few teething problems as they were trying to find their feet so to speak, however towards the end of the programme the support started to improve significantly. The resources that are provided are all done online and they also have face to face tutorial to help you out.

I would say that the training provider has provided adequate support to perform at work, however my employer has provided me with more than enough support in able to perform better at my job role. My training provider has given me the basic skills and information that I require such as tendering and procurement, however I have gained a vast amount of this knowledge through work.

My work provide ample opportunity to attend social and professional networking events. it is almost impossible to attend all of them however with the demands of studies and work placements. Because Transport for London is a massive organisation with loads of employees, the amount of networking events and invitations to them are limitless.

One of the best places to work genuinely. The amount of support that Transport for London provide, the friendly atmosphere and relaxed environment all leads to a very enjoyable place to work and study. One of the selling points for me would be the amount of resources they have available.

Never be put off by the daunting process of applying for transport for London. the experience is worth it if you manage to obtain a place to work here as well as the numerous departments that you can work for, your development opportunities within the organisation is endless. You get out what you put in.
