  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Worked on my Excel skills as well as PowerPoint skills. This has also allowed me the chance to work on my presentation skills as there have been times where I've had to present to groups of people. This has improved my confidence and made me better at talking in front of groups of people.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I love my programme. We have 8 different 6 month placements over a 4 year period. This gives us a huge range of different areas of the business to cover. This also keeps the programme from becoming stale and repetitive, and also allows you to see which area of the business you are most interested in.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very well organized. We have 6 month placements and our 4 year programme allows for variation across the business. The first 2 years are heavily structured and the apprentice has little choice in their placements, however, in the 3rd/4th years the apprentice is allowed to have a say and almost choose what part of the business they want to go into.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Lots of support from both my sponsor and line manager. Line manager is very understanding that I travel from afar and allows me work from home days when possible. My sponsor is also very supportive and caring regarding any health issues and doctors/hospital appointments. Lots of support from across the company to make sure the apprentices' health is well.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I haven't really needed/requested any support from my training provider so I can't really comment too much of what kind of support they offer. During our training release at university they were very accommodating and offered meetings and draft reviews if we needed help with our work.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • We haven't spent much time with our training provider as of yet so it's had little impact on our role. However, some of the work we've done with our training provider has involved presentations in front of a group, so in this sense it has been helpful in developing my confidence for my day-to-day role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are lots of extra curricular activities such as football games, 5-a-side, quiz matches etc. We also get the chance to have General Management forums once a month, which are a great opportunity to network with senior managers and leadership. We also get to have a social event after this with all the general management apprentices and grads.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Transport for London to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Great work-life balance. Chance to work from home which makes life a lot easier. Instead of a 9 hour day + 1 hour getting ready for work + 4 hours travel (14 hour day) you're able to just get up slightly before 9, have lunch whilst working etc which cuts your 14 hour work day to only 9/10 hours. 30 days annual leave is also a huge bonus, with a 21.5k salary and free Oyster pass at only 19 years old. Very caring employees and management too, and the chance to jump around the business and work your way up.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Transport for London?
  • Make sure to thoroughly review the company and its goal before going into the interview. It's important that not only do you understand what the company strives for, but you also care about what the company aims to do. TfL is offering a service so it's important to care about what the consumers want.
