London Underground maintenance Review

When anything in the London underground network goes wrong or if anything is broken, we would then go on to site and fix the problem with the time we have. Depending on what is broken, that would vary when it can be fixed but if it is to do with signals or tracks, majority of the work would occur at engineering hours when trains are not at service.

I have learn many skills and have also become better at skills that I had already have. As this is a hands on job, you would always improve your hand skills. Being organised is also key as you learn to have clear communication and know what work needs to be achieved. Time management is also another skill that has been improved as you are constantly working on the clock.

This programme is very interesting as there are many different jobs to be done and can understand how the network operates as well as knowing what differences you are making to the company and commuters journey. The programme is also very beneficial as it makes you think and you can learn new skills that can be used outside of work.

The programme is very well organised. We have a roster which tells us what we are doing over a certain period and also have great managers who keeps us informed of any upcoming events or changes that is happening. The fact that we have dates can also help if you want to book any holidays.

The support is never ending. We are reminded several times of the support we can receive upon request and the fact that trainers and managers are more than happy to help makes me feel more welcomed in the company. They also take some pressure of us if we don't understand anything.

Again, the support is never ending. The trainer constantly informs us that if we don't understand something or need help that they are more than happy to assist. The trainer does inform us on what is required to achieve our qualification. Trainer also keeps a track with us in terms of how much work is completed and informs us if we are on track or not with the work.

The qualification is essential for this job role as you would need the qualification to get the job. The qualification is also good as it gives us a more recognised achievement that is appreciated within the company. The qualification that needs to be completed is corresponding with the job so it gives us a some understanding when actually working in the engineering field.

Yes. We receive plenty of emails from the company saying that we can attend social clubs to share our experiences within the company as well as sharing knowledge of the profession you are in. It has been recommended to attend these events to get yourself recognised as well as gaining further knowledge within the company even if its not your job.
