On a day to day basic, this role is a mixture between practical and theory work. This is due to it being very academic and also very hands on. The practical work consists of little tasks such as filing to riveting. Every so often there is a chance to get to work on the aircraft we have.
When I started this apprenticeship I had just come from school, i did not understand the working environment. BAE Systems introduced me to the environment in a great way. throughout the time I have been here I have learnt a variety of hand skills and learnt how to study much better in the time given before the exams.
I personally enjoy this programme, at times in the classroom it does get boring however the instructors are very good at making the most out of the situation and make it more interesting. The practical is a very interesting part too, I don't think its boring at all due to the great activities you get to do.
The programme is well structured for all the exams and the time in the workshop, particularly around certain modules. this allows you to work with the stuff you need to learn about so you have a better understanding rather than it just on paper. The programme is structured onto a timetable which you are given at the start. it shows all holidays and what you are doing on the day.
At the beginning of the programme, we were given a sheet full of support numbers to call. these vary from helplines to just general help in the company. The instructors and leaders are very supportive. At BAE Systems they care very much about suiting the needs of every single individual.
At BAE Systems we receive as much support as we need due to the fact BAE Systems focuses on given everyone an equal opportunity. Every instructor is willing to help as much as they can to help you understand something you do not know or get no matter what it is.
The qualification we are gaining through this apprenticeship helps us perform better in our role because it gives us the opportunity to learn and understand everything for when we get fully qualified so that we know what we are doing. It also gives us an idea of where we are working to, which can be quite comforting and push our career goals.
While only being at BAE Systems for a few months I have noticed there has been many social events that have taken place mainly to raise money. I Think this is a great touch and allows BAE Systems to give money to great causes. This events go from bake sales to climbing peaks!
Yes
I would recommend BAE Systems to a friend because how great the company overall is. BAE Systems offers a range of great opportunities that open up great career paths. BAE Systems is also a very caring and friendly company that cares very greatly about every employee and their wellbeing, I personally think that is a great touch.
My advice to others applying for BAE Systems is to really understand what company you are going into and what you will be doing. I'd recommend them to be themselves and open to the company because they are particularly good for support in any way which many companies are not.
