  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • my role as an aircraft maintenance engineer with BAE systems is to learn to maintain fast jets working in both workshops in a classroom and on a hanger floor, this is to build skills and will eventually lead to me going onto an RAF base to gain experience and gain qualifications

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • since starting at BAE systems I have learnt many new skills, in the class rooms I have learnt revision techniques and in the workshop and on the hanger floor I have learnt skills such as wire locking, riveting, countersinking and drilling, furthermore I have learnt how to put a plane on to jacks.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my program a lot because their is a lot of interesting skills and facts to learn, and I find the program very interesting and enjoyable, however I find it very fast paced and in depth and at times it can be difficult and challenging but most of the time it is manageable

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • my program is very organised and structured as we are given a timetable which lets us know all the learning which takes place. we also are made aware of any changes of this as soon as they happen. we also have a meeting every month to tell us what is happening in the company

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • their is a lot of support from the employer. if I need any help human resources is available to talk with and if I need technical support it is available to ring and help. we also have a meeting every morning to discuss any further problems which may need discussing

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that my qualification helps me perform better in my role because it trains me to understand my role as a hole an builds my skills for example the theory side of the qualification helps me understand what I am doing and the practical side helps me practice the skills I have learnt in the theory

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • there are no extra curricular activities to get involved in however living with my work colleagues means that I can revise and learn things with them as a collective out of work hours and do activities such as go to the gym and go for trips to restaurants and places like the cinema

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend BAE systems to a friend because it is a highly supportive and well structured employer, they also offer the chance of a long and stable carer and put towards things such as pensions. finally they help you build qualifications and don't let the work you are doing become to boring


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
  • when applying to BAE systems make sure you are confident and well presented also make sure to have a lot of other experiences such as DofE and different volunteering experiences. finally make yourself seem friendly and make sure you are actually interested in what your applying for otherwise you wont enjoy it
