To assist any engineering decisions and manage the construction on site of specific packages. I interact with most of the trades on site on a daily basis as well as project managers, quantity surveyors and construction managers. I am responsible for 3 floors of the project working with another manager
I have learnt how to read rebar drawings, how to use a program to plan works and how to manage people on site. At uni I have learnt about general engineering principles. I have done courses on a wide range of construction topics and health and safety. Also how to present and manage my time
I enjoy my day to day role on the project and enjoy working within the company. I like the people I work with and the variety of work that I do each day. Each day is different so it doesn't get boring. I enjoy uni as well since I can link it to work
The program is well structured and I always know in good time if I have extra training or events on. Uni is a weekly thing on the same day so it's easy to plan for that. Normally we have training day one day a month which is easy to fit in
Mace give me a lot of support like study leave and people are always happy to help when I do have any problems. H R always solve any issues I have quickly and give me a correct answer. Mace pay for my uni fees as well which is a big help
One day a week I go to uni where I attend from 9 - 6. I get lectures and info about uni assignments there. They have an online system with lectures and other info on that we can log into and that is where we submit assignments when they are due.
There is a big overlap between what I learn at uni and what I learn / do at work. It isn't so technical at work but what I learn at uni still helps me to understand and do stuff correctly. It helps that the building is quite complex as well
There are a few but they are mainly at head office. In our project we do a few charity events throughout the year like dragon boat race and there is always an opportunity to do volunteer work with the local community where we either raise money or actually go and help them out
Yes
Good company culture, good variety of work, they seem to employ good people as well. Generous annual leave and the pay is pretty good as well. Its a big name in the construction industry so that means that they work on prestigious projects throughout London and the rest of the world
Make sure you research the company and some of their big projects. Make sure you research the role you are applying for and what that person does on site. make sure you have an interest in construction if you are going to apply, since there is no point applying if you don't
