Mondays are dedicated to my college day so I am not at work. Starting the day is usually checking emails for any updates of ongoing tasks, and then continuing the progress of ongoing jobs. Throughout the day I progress several tasks to ensure they are finished on time, there are weekly reviews and catch ups to get help or to help others. However there are alot of opportunities for travel within the company so that I have started work all acress the UK.
Working within BAE I have progressed many skills including; my ability to work in teams, ability to recognise when its best to work on my own and whens best to ask for help / seek advice. The company puts all apprentices through College so currently I am working towards a HNC in Mechanical Engineering and then a HND and Degree in mechanical Engineering too.
Life as an apprentice is enjoyable and exciting, as every 3 months we change placement so the work is always varied and different. The opportunities within the apprenticeship have been outstanding, both exciting and different, sometimes related to a specific task, sometimes just to develop us as people (such as outward bounds and CATIA courses)
the structure is well set out and adhered to, the scheme of work shows us where the next placements will be and what the work will be like, so there is pleanty of opportunity to complete all NVQ work. The training team are very dedicated to the job of ensuring the apprentices are looked after.
BAE Systems is a very supportive employer with everything imaginable offered on site and for personal life. There is a site provided gym and Costa, company car schemes and discounts on many local businesses. For mental health and support of home life BAE goes above and beyond the call of duty providing excellent support for all employees and their families.
HETA cannot be faulted as a training provider, trainers are all experienced in the fields that they are teaching in and are all approachable people, their experience means that the work can be related to real world tasks. The training provider offeers a brilliant facility with adequate parking and facilities for when we are there.
The qualification directly links to my work, nott only through my taks but for the pay scale and promotion aspects, the better qualified I become the more opportunities I will have within the business to develop and reach my potential. The training provider offers excellent advice on career paths and opportunities to develop.
As an apprentice I have visted careers events and social networking events at the Royal Aeronautical Engineering Society to develop myself into a career as a manager or more employable person. Social events are orgainised, from 5 a side football to walking the three peaks, the more that you put in the more you will get out of it.
Yes
As the wage and the opportunities offered are excellent. To get paid to get qualified is an excellent opportunity to work towards getting a degree without racking up massive amounts of debt, all whilst gaining employable experience. The company takes good care of all employees and will go out of its way to ensure that they are the best that they can be.
Read the website and develop yourself to what the company wants, relax and take your time, a rushed application is obvious, just make sure you read and answer the questions. Remember that when working with aircraft it is better to say you dont know how to do something than it is to guess and try and cover it up, so if you dont know a question skip, you can always come back to it.
