My day-to-day tasks include liaising with other departments, external contacts/suppliers and the customer to solve engineering related problems. As an apprentice I am alao completing a Level 3 NVQ in Engineering Technical support. the work I do is recorded and assessed against the NVQ criteria. My role is mainly desk based but opportunities for offsite working are common also.
I brought some communication and team working skills to the company from previous employment, however I feel that these have been strengthened and developed by virtue of working here. There is a multitude of new skills I have acquired working here from completing complex engineering tasks utilising maths and science, to managing small projects.
I enjoy the programme immensely. I have never worked somewhere so engaging and rewarding. Not only do I find the vast majority of the work challenging and interesting, the salary, benefits and working environment are second to none. the training provided is also exemplary and the level of support on offer is more than adequate.
the programme is very well structured one year is spent offsite learning the basic skills required by all engineers, the subsequent 3 years are spent out in the business working on real life engineering tasks, while continuing further education one day a week at a local collage not far from the site.
The level of support received is fantastic for young people who perhaps have not experienced a working environment before. the training team are dedicated and the departments are more than happy to help an individual to overcome any obstacles, as long as they themselves have the right attitude and willingness to learn
The training provider offers support in the form of tutorial sessions and extra input as and when required, they are patient and have no problems going through a problem or concept more than once if required to ensure a full understanding. overall I have never had a poor experience when working with out training provider.
On several occasions I have utilised the skills I have learnt through further education at work, when performing structural or aerodynamic calculations, when writing reports or designing documents. The tuition provided assists me in my working life greatly, and has a real a tangible effect on the quality of the work I do
There are regular charity events hosted such as sponsored walks and tough-mudder style events. The individual departments of the business often organise events within their own teams. I have personally attended several social events through work and feel that they provide a great opportunity for team building and building professional relationships.
Yes
I feel that BAE is the best company I have personally worked for. The salary and benefits are extremely competitive, and the working environment is excellent. There is a wealth of experienced people who are happy to help with any issues or queries you may have, and the work is both challenging and rewarding
Don't rush your application, Proof read it well and ensure it makes sense. First impressions matter. Research what it is that we do before your application/interview, having a background knowledge of the business shows genuine interest. finally, ensure that you be yourself in your interview. interviewers tend to know when people are putting up a front.
