  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a project management apprentice, who is currently in a role doing project controls. This involves managing the scheduling, resourcing and budgeting of the project. On a day to day basis I check the schedule to ensure we have enough resources to complete the activities we have open and ensure we don't go over budget or past our deadline.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes. Through out the course of the apprenticeship one of the main skills I have developed is my ability to communicate effectively. I have learnt new skills in terms of IT. The ability to use excel has been key to my role and so I have had to learn how to use it effectively.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have only been attending University for a few weeks. However in the time that I have spent at university I feel like they have been very supportive and that there is a network there for me. I have found it hard to engage with one of my lecturers as they don't seem to suit my learning style.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I do feel like it benefits me in the workplace. This is is because what we are learning at the university directly translates into what I am doing at my place of work. It is also good because there is no time between my course and work. I can learn something one day and apply it the next day.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes there are extra curricular activities available to me at my work. I am signed up as a STEM ambassador which provides me with the opportunity to go into schools and encourage kids to take part in STEM subjects and pursue a career inn a STEM field. There are other opportunities available as well.

  • 9a. Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend BAE Systems to a friend because they have provided me with an opportunity to get a degree while I gain experience on the job. They have provided a great full package for the time that I'm here e.g. pay, opportunities. But also for after I am no longer in the company.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
  • If you are still at college/school focus on getting the right grades and qualifications since if you don't have those you won't be able to apply. try and take part in extra curricular activities as this helps to make you stand out. If you get through to an interview stage then be yourself. If you try to be something you're not, it will show.
