Engineering Assisstant Review

I get to site around 7.30, check my emails and prepare anything I need for the day. At 8 I go on to site to ensure that all the contractors have started working in the areas needed. Throughout the day I monitor and manage works activities across the ground floor of the project, ensuring they are completed on time, on budget and safely.

I have learnt lots of new skills over the past year, including how to snag and close out snags in areas using the snagging system, iSnag. I have continued to develop my managerial and communication skills through work on site and various training programs. I have also developed my presentation skills through the presentation training course,

I enjoy the programme I am enrolled on as it gives me a chance to learn and develop a range of skills. Going to University part time allows me to learn the theoretical side of the job as well as apply this knowledge on site within a few weeks, rather than waiting 3 years.

The programme is very well organized and structured. There is a good amount of communication between the apprenticeship team and apprentices. There is a good amount of training provided that compliments the university modules I am doing. There is also good support if you have any questions or concerns about work, university or training.

I receive a good amount of support from my employer. Me and my line manager have regular meetings to keep updated on my progress. I also have regular meetings with the apprenticeship team to keep them updated on my progress and any problems I may have. I also regularly see a member of the apprentice team at training events where I can talk to them if I need to.

I receive a good amount of support from the university. They provide a good amount of help and support when it comes to learning, coursework and exams. They also provide personal support in the form of a tutor. They are always available on email to answer any questions/queries you may have.

I feel that my qualification is beneficial to my daily role. It allows you to learn the theory behind what you are doing on site. For example the theory behind laying rebar and pouring concrete. I then see this being done on site and am able to apply my knowledge to be able to manage the works more effectively.

Yes, there are lots of extra-curricular activities to get involved in at work. There is a quarterly team social where all the team can go out together. There is also often activities such as tennis matches and networking events to go to. You also get a volunteering day to help out in the local community or with a charity/organization close to you.

Mace is a very good company to work for with a wealth of experience to draw knowledge from. They work in lots of different sectors in a lot of places which provides a lot of opportunities. There are a lot of social events with good networking opportunities, with peers as well as with members of the senior leadership team and board of directors.

Make sure you have a good knowledge of the company and know the 'mace values'. Ensure you have a good idea of what you want to do in the future. ensure you have a good knowledge of the job role. Show enthusiasm and a willingness to learn new things as they will not expect you to be an expert straight away.
