I am an engineering apprentice who is entering the business as an aeronautical fitter. Im studying Level 2 PEO and level 3 BTEC in aeronautical engineering. I am currently being set out on training tasks to enhance my skills which will be used in the business. I'm currently a part of HAWK team, but we wil be soon be split up into our specialised rolls.
I have learnt many new skills and ways of working, despite my previous engineering background. I have been taught a whole new way of working and how to get the best out of my ability. We have been trained as Emergency first aiders. I have always been a hands on person to get stuck in and on with the task, but BAE has taught me to take my time and study things carefully and consider every option before i set out on my task.
I enjoy working as part of a team. I enjoy the workplace banter as we all get on. I have made many friends during my short 8 months here and i know these will be people who i'll be working with for the rest of my life. I enjoy learning new skills and enhancing previous skills.
I feel proud to work for BAE SYSTEMS as it is a reputable company and recognised globally. I feel valued as an apprentice as we are the future.
At first the organisation was not very good, we were all unsure of what we were doing and how we were going to go about things, 8 months down the line everything seems clearer and the moral is high. We are all pleased to have been given the specialised jobs we wanted. Now everything seems to be structured and in place for when we enter the business. I feel the training organisation is well organised and structured so they can get the best out of us, after all. We are the future of BAE SYSTEMS.
We receive a lot of support, when we are struggling we can always go to them for help and guidance. They're never to busy to help us.
We recieve a lot of support from our employer, we get regular updates through videos. We have talks and discussions with our managers. And we can always talk to our manager if its work related or something is affecting the way we work.
Not very well, i had to move out from my parents due to travel costs, and the cost of living is just as much. But sometimes you have to step back to move forward and i feel that it is definitely worth the struggle for now. This isn't a job. It's a career and sacrifices have to be made for us to strive for our future.
We haven't really been involved with the company outside of work as we've only been here a short time. I have organised football games with employees (1st year BMA's and 1st year engineerinb apprentices) to get involved in 7-a-side games.
