my role as a technical apprentice is to go around the departments in the BAE systems organisation on the brough site over 4 years to get an under standing of how the company works/operates whilst learning the skills needed to become a technical engineer. on a day today basis my job changes, some days I will be shadowing current employees on their jobs and depending on my time in a placement I will be undertaking tasks myself in order to help the department.
whilst working for BAE Systems I have developed on my current skills of team working, listening skill and communication skills etc, but I have also gained valuable skills that help me undertake jobs. Such as I am now much more skilled on a computer and the software used in the company which will help me when I come out of my time into a full time job.
I enjoy the programme a lot, it has enabled me to learn whilst become a valued engineer in a work place. this means that any path I choose to take in the future I am better set up for working with a variety of people and I can fit in and understand the working a lot easier than if I where to have gone down the path of university
the structure and organisation of the programme is very good, I am given the opportunity to experience many different departments in the 4 years I am on the programme. each of these feed into each other enabling me to develop and learn on the skills I have from each department
I receive a lot of support from my employer, this is done through objective setting before each placement, as well as reviews at the end of each placement. in turn these allow me to speak freely about how my apprenticeship is going and allow me to ask for guidance if needed.
I receive a lot of support from my trainers, they make sure that I have all my assignments on track and give me regular updates on how I am doing towards my qualification. if I have any query's about the things we are doing they are more than happy to take a minuet to help
it helps me perform better because I am learning things that are used in the jobs that I encounter, this means that as I am undertaking jobs I can be one step ahead and I know what to do on certain things without having to be told by my line manager
I get involved with may education events within the community, this can range from apprentice evenings for students and parents a well as mock interviews with students to try and prep them for the things they may encounter when they reach the time of trying to find a job or apprenticeship
Yes
I would recommend BAE because the training they provide to get me to where I am today is second to non, as a company they look after their employees and will do their best to make sure that we are all happy and are comfortable with the job we are in.
spend time on the application and present yourself as who you are, BAE is a company that values real people, not the people that hide behind a CV full of good grades. they will value everyone no matter their grades and will take a big influence in how you are as a person.
