Technical designer. I am currently at furness college full time aiming to complete the first year of my my apprenticeship before entering the business and attending college on block release.
Existing skills include teamwork and communication. New skills include developing engineering foundation knowledge and experience to support my future role as a technical designer for bae systems
I do enjoy my programme though I feel that some of the framework for the first year of the apprenticeship is not entirely necessary for the role I am being prepared for
I feel valued by regular communication with the early careers and apprenticeship support team
Some of the course content seems irrelevant, such as the mechanical rotations. Occasionally there have been a lot of assignments to complete at once, which could have been spread out more
In the majority of lessons I have received the support I need. During the pipework rotation I did not feel supported by the tutors and they were often unapproachable. There is not enough time to complete the assessments which meant our whole class had to come back in our own time, which often meant the workshop was overcrowded and there was not enough tutor support as required.
I feel fully supported by my employer and I feel as though I can approach them if I need help and they will provide me with additional support should I require it.
During the first eighteen months the salary is lower than my previous salary but I know that I am working towards a better salary through my apprenticeship. Bae apprenticeships have a higher salary than most other apprenticeships in my local area.

I feel that this apprenticeship is a fantastic opportunity to work for such a prestigious international company
