Using and running a range of manual and cnc machines
learned a wide variety of skills from setting work on a cnc to a manual machine
I have enjoyed the experience at times, but overall feel like I have been used as cheap labour to get a job done and my training come second to production work most of the time. With the lack of support in dealing with issues sometimes and improvement and trying discouraged.
Poorly organised, no real training plan and no designated instructors for the different areas of training. A lot of self teaching was required and learning by trial and error, or having to seek out the answer on my own due to not having a mentor. I have had less then 6 months of direct teaching over the last 3 and a half years.
support in the way of sick time and ppe is excellent, when it comes to doing jobs very little support is available in curtain areas. With a lack of staff in a few areas you are left to find out the answer on your own, with the internet being used a lot of the time. In other areas there is excellent support, but you have to seek it out.
GE have been outstanding in supporting my qualifications so far with chances to continue my education and 2 hours a week study time available to do work. with opportunity's to gain higher education such as degrees and hnc in your chosen field, this will help you to progress your career
i feel that that the level 2 and 3 btecs have contributed negligibly to my job role as its more office based skills the shop floor based skills and are only there to tick a box. The NVQ seem longwinded at times and some questions having to be answered four times on different units in the same NVQ even though the answers remains the same.
