Learning about accountancy, finance and the wide world of accounting and finance, and the business environment of the Deloitte office world of accounting, and in addition to this learning about the experience of finance. In particular, team-building, presentations, and case studies of actual accountancy or consultancy work, such as for a legal firm
I learned many skills that I feel can be very useful for my future career and personal development, even though the work experience took place over quite a short period of time. For example, some basic team building exercises, public speaking, and some financial skills like analysis and presentations on finance
I found it broadly quite enjoyable, and particularly enjoyed working with the other people I met, who were all around my age. I would have like to have been able to get out and explore the office or meet people more, however, as we were in the same room the entire week.
The work experience was well-organised for what it was- there was something on every day, everyone's documents and paperwork were collected, and there was a definite structure. There was also all the resources such as pens and paper that we needed. Lunch was also well-organised and provided every day, which was very nice!
I learned some things about the company culture and what it would be like to work at Deloitte, particularly as other people from the company came to talk to us about their experience and what their jobs were like. However, we did not get an in-depth look at the office at all.
I think my work experience helped me somewhat at deciding on my future career path, as it certainly helped me to understand what a career at a Big Four accounting firm would be like, and what it would entail to actually work at a large firm, which I found interesting.
I was not paid for this experience, as it was a week long work experience- however, I was not required to do any work that I should have been paid for, and it was worth it for the experience. I was reimbursed for my travel expenses provided I gave evidence.
Yes, there were opportunities to meet employees of the firm Deloitte, as they came in and spoke to us, and engaged with us or helped us with activities (and ran the program as well) but it did not feel like networking, more information sharing and them having a chat with us
Yes
Overall I had a good experience, particularly as it was free, they provided us with free food and reimbursed us for travel expenses, which was nice. The company also seemed like a friendly place to work overall, and the staff were generally nice to us students and happy to help
I applied through the NCS The Challenge, and then I had to fill out an online application. I found the entire process quite straightforward, and I think I just expressed a genuine interest and a willingness to learn about the career they were telling me about and an interest in the firm
