  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • In audit, I spent roughly 70% of my time at client offices around London and the UK. I became responsible for different sections of client work from within a few weeks of joining the firm. I worked alongside teams of Deloitte people throughout and with many different industries: casinos, recruitment and travel to name a few

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt many new skills, such as organising my work plan so that I make the most efficient use of my working time and meet deadlines more effectively. I have also developed my communication skills through dealing with clients on an almost daily basis. My ability to analyse data has also improved significantly.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • While the hours were sometimes long, I found my role very rewarding overall as the job was very hands-on and contributing towards a real outcome. There was also a good social life within teams, your joining intake and around the department at evenings and weekends with many socials taking place.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The scholar scheme was a little defunct by the time I joined the programme in 2018 as the firm appeared to be focussing on the Graduates and Apprentices to a far greater extent. This sometimes led to the feeling of no one knowing what your programme was a lot of the time.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Deloitte has a support mechanism involving mentors, mental health champions, and resource managers to help deal with any potential problems you may have. All of whom are very approachable meaning that it was easy to share your concerns if that became potent. General attitude towards supporting me was generally positive

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Time off is limited during your qualification period as you are expected to do client work in and around your exam time (between college and the exams days). However, this is to be expected from all firms within this industry no matter how small or large they are. I had to give up some weekends as a result.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Path-way went towards an A C A qualification which is undoubtedly crucial within the financial services industry and thus was very helpful to obtain. From a work perspective it helped improve my understanding of accounting and how businesses operate. This was not only useful for within Deloitte but also gave me good career prospects.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Many extra-curricular activities, ranging from all sports you can think of. A bit of a drinking culture at Deloitte in that the vast majority of work socials involve excessive consumption of alcohol. However, this is again typical of the financial services industry and London firms in general and so should be expected.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Deloitte to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Very positive experience overall working for a multinational firm. Excellent career progression opportunities in the long term as the firm is very diverse, equipping you with a variety of long term skills. This set me up well for my career within the financial services industry and was definitely a good step

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Deloitte?
  • Be yourself during the interview process and make sure that you prepare thoroughly. The online assessments are meant to be difficult but they are doable for most that apply - clear your brain and think about what is being asked of you. In general, always make sure you are up to speed on the firm's values
