I am an Apprentice technician. My day to day is working on trucks doing servicing, repairs and diagnosing faults. I work with qualified technicians on jobs to improve my knowledge. Sometimes I work independently on jobs to see how I cope but there are plenty of technicians there to help if needed, including my mentor.
I leant a lot of new skills such as working with trucks and vehicles being able to diagnose faults and find wiring faults and fix them. I learnt to use specialist tools. At college they teach us to use these tools and the procedures for fixing the vehicles properly. My skills at diagnosing is improving all the time.
I throughly enjoy my apprenticeship programme and I feel like I learn a lot from my colleagues and at city of Bristol college. The only thing I do not enjoy is having to stay down south for two weeks at a time because that means I am away from my family and workplace.
The programme is very Well structured as I get involved in lots of different jobs and they always put me on jobs relating to the topic which I am doing at college next. I know in the workplace the people I can go to when I have problems or need advice.
I receive lots of support from my employer. I often have meetings to discuss my progress and to see if there is anything that I need or am having problems with. I have a mentor that I can go to to help me with any jobs that i struggle with.
When working towards my qualifications I receive lots of support from my mentor and workmates. If there is anything i struggle with I can sit down with any of my colleagues and they will explain and help me understand. I can talk to my manager who will either help or direct me to someone who can.
My qualification helps me in the workplace by causing me to be put onto many different jobs to fulfil criteria. It helps me to understand the correct methods and standard that jobs should be completed to. It also sets me targets for the workshop to work toward to improve my skills.
Recently at work there has been more involvement in social media at work with me being on the imperial apprentice Instagram and there is also talk of the apprentice panel which I was asked to consider joining but looking at the roles and responsibilities I don’t belive it is for me
Yes
I would recommend to a friend because of the high quality level of training I am receiving and the supportive friendly workplace which I am in. Imperial have always helped with any issues I have and there is many supportive people in the business who are willing to help with anything, work related or not.
If you are going to apply then there is no limit to where you can go.if you Set yourself a goal and imperial will help you get there. Its really not that difficult to apply and you can see that there is a good level of training and support provided.
