  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • my role on a daily basis would be to service wind turbines. However once you have been trained to a maintenance technician level you can the take further training and become a fault finding technician. You would be following a maintenance manual which tells you what different things need to be done.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes I have learned many new skills as well as developed existing ones. One existing skill that I have approved upon a lot would be my team working skills. You are always working in a two man team at least so you are always getting a chance to approve upon this skill.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my apprenticeship programme a lot. It gives me opportunities to develop and gain skills that I would never had done before this programme. As well as this I have a passion for engineering so I really enjoy the hands on experience that I get with this particular programme.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is quite well structured. As with all things improvements can always be made. One thing that I think works quite well is having a person look after you throughout the programme. In the first and second years of the programme someone will look after you and let you know everything that you require. In the third and fourth years a different person looks after your training but does not support you as much so that you are gaining confidence doing things on your own.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive a lot of support from my training provider whilst working towards my qualifications. • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that my qualification through my training provider helps me a lot with my role. This is because a lot of the questions that I need to complete are based around the role that I have so it helps. As well as this its a lot to do with health and safety so it means that I am really clued up about the health and safety aspects of my job and are at less risk of having an accident.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I am unaware of any extra-curricular activities that I can get involved in at my work. However there may be some. I know that there are opportunities to go out and further your education once your apprenticeship has finished. As well as this we do go out on team building events.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Siemens to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend siemens to a friend because I think that they are a good company to work for. They look after their employees well and there are a lot of perks for working for siemens. For example you get access to my choice which gives you discounts on shops etc.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Siemens?
  • My tips / advice that I would give to any one that is applying to siemens would be to always push yourself. Within siemens there are many great opportunities. You can always go onto further educate yourself or become a higher level technician if you put the work in and complete the portfolios.
