Service and maintenance on wind turbines including all the electrical and mechanical systems within. Must communicate well with all members of the team during the team brief and have a good knowledge on parts and processes when preparing for the maintenance tasks. Must fill out fault reports and service checklists after tasks.
Learned lots of new skills including improving communication, social skills and team building skills. New practical skills have been learned as well like working with electrical testing equipment, fluid power equipment, and operating high tech machinery. Also more skilful using various tools which are specific to tasks I’m completing.
I really enjoy my programme and everything I’ve learned on the course so far. I’ve developed strong relationships with other apprentices and friendships which have helped me in my team based role. Qualifications and skills learned will help me in my future career prospects and I’m continually developing my skills
The programme is very organised as the full 4 years are planned out in advance. The courses at college are selected beforehand and planned into a 30 week block for us to gain the right qualifications for the job. Training courses at the training centre are planned in as well to make sure we have all the skills needed for our site based roles.
Support is given from my employer and other employees throughout and after working hours. Details on training courses, meetings, assignments etc are all discussed well beforehand and planned accordingly. My employer always supports me in jobs I find difficult as well as guiding me towards the correct supporting member of the team.
The training provider gives good support throughout my employment when working towards qualifications. They supply study notes and provide sources for information to help us throughout the qualifications. The training provider always discusses well before assignments how they should be done and what information or evidence they are looking for.
The qualification helps me perform better in my role as it makes me think more about the task at hand and the processes for completing jobs. I think more about the safety aspects involved with the job as a lot of the qualification is built around a safe system of work.
Occasional team building activities are organised at work as well as nights out for a meal around the festive period. Bonding together as a team outside of the work place build working relationships and allows me to connect more with members of the team I don’t usually. These skills he’ll when back in work as team work is very important in my role
Yes
Siemens is a very successful company and very professionals with how they perform. A lot of the company is built around safety and connecting with everyone in the workplace as well as building strong relationships which is why it is an enjoyable and safe environment to work in. Support is given all the way through apprentice qualifications and friendly members of management are always there if support is needed as well.
Ensure you have a very professional attitude towards the company and are a very good team player. A lot of the roles within the company involve working with other people especially in problem solving situations so it’s important you have strong relationships with these people and have good communication skills.
