  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a Wind turbine technician I work 1 week on 1 week off. I get up at 5am everyday to get on the boat for 6am we transfer to a turbine and complete a days work. This days work can either be retro fits, maintenance or fault finding. We then get down at the end of the day and sail back onshore we aim to get onshore for 6.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes I have learnt how to service a turbine fully and I have learnt how to fault find using various different methods. I have also learnt people skills and how to book accommodation, do expenses and keep on top of time keeping. I,have had training in various things such as first aid which I can use outside of work.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the work I do and i love my job they let you know the night beforehand what you will be doing and you learn something new everyday and different skills and different ways to work from other people. I enjoy that i Know what I am doing and other team members can trust me to get the job done.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is well structured I completed 9 months of college first then I completed 6 weeks bundle training which gives me all the training I need for my job. Then they send you to site to apply your skills that you have learnt to the job. You do this for 2 and abit years before you come out of your Time.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Receive a lot of support can ask them questions whenever I want and they will answer. They will always help when they can and if they can’t they will refer me to someone else that can help. I can contact them via phone, email and a work social site called yammer.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive a lot of support from my NVQ assssor whenever I would be stuck on anything I could give him a call or an email and he will explain it to me so I woils be able to understand. He also has meetings with us every so often now and then.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It helps with the theory I suppose but the main thing is that we have to complete practical documented assessments for our NVQ (document 6 faults). So when we document these faults it makes us understand more about the fault which could help us solve the next one quicker etc.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There is a bike to work scheme where you can get bikes at a discounted price to encourage fitness outside of work. There is a social event every year when they treat you to a meal and though the day you get to discuss problems and issues wit( other technicians.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • 100% worked for SIEMENS for nearly 4 years now and they have taught me so many skills and give me training that can not only be used in work but outside of work too. I also really enjoy my job and th people i work with it has also taught me people skills and other financial skills that could come into use in the future.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Siemens?
  • Be honest with your application and just do as your told when your told and take advantage of all the training you will get as it can be useful inside and outside or work. Also when you bring a project in to show them in the interview. Bring them something in that will wow them.
