  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • The role I undertook as a Siemens apprentice, was to move on four month placements in different areas of the business learning the basic skills required in each areas and to complete one level 2 course in basic engineering and a level 3 in furthering that education at college then another level 3 course in the factory.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt many skills while being on this apprenticeship, as I joined straight from my gcse exams. Most of the skills where taught at college for example basic fitting techniques as well as learning how to machine screw threads, slots and basic profiles. These skills where improved upon once I entered the factory working with experienced fitters and machinists.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We get so much support from our supplier, for example they will partially fund transport costs e.g. train or bus tickets, as well as funding eye tests and giving us regular health check ups. We also get regular updates on how the business is doing on a global scale.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • When at college we receive lots of support from the tutors there, for example if you get stuck on a topic then there will always be a tutor available to give assistance even if the don't teach you directly, as most of the tutors have knowledge on more than one subject.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that the qualifications I have received so far have allowed me to progress better in the factory as we have already been taught the basic skills so the only skills the former employees really need to show us are the more job specific skills as well as the paperwork associated.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are many opportunities for extra curricular activities as the business regularly attends many social events such as airshows, school careers fairs aswell as pride. This allows apprentices to relax and be them selves while getting to know new people in the business while still representing the company for who we are.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Siemens to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I really would recommend Siemens to my friends as its an amazing place to work and everyone who I've worked with has been friendly no matter your background. and while your getting on with work there will always be someone there to talk to and have a laugh and good time with.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Siemens?
  • The advice I would give is always be yourself as that allows the people here to know you and how you like to learn and don't be afraid to talk to people. it can be scary when you first enter but once you settle in you'll have a blast.
