I am a reasearch and development apprentice. i work with software and creating code that is used to generate data that is used by other equipment created in R&D that controls the trains. i also used make code to create test software to test the other equipment that is used.
I have learnt lots of new skills working here. i have learn new social skills talking to lots of different people from lots of different nationalities and backgrounds who work in the company. i have also learn new software and programming skills that have helped me with my day to day job of being a training software engineer.
I enjoy my program quite a lot. i enjoy meeting the new people with lots of different experiences. i also enjoy the roll i am doing as i am learning lots of new skills in areas i am interested in with computers and programming which will help me in the future.
The organisation is Ok for my program. there wasn't really a set structure but the allowed me to see what the company does and then choose an area which i am interested in to focus my apprenticeship on. as i was interested in computer programming and coding i chose to join a software team.
I receive a lot of support from from my employer. i have a manager who i speak to every month that is in charge of all the apprentices and my own line manager and mentor which are both in the current team i am working for in which they offer lots of support.
When i went to college i didn't really get much support from the college for the first year as i didn't see my tutors very often and the lessons where very short. but i have now moved college now and will hopefully get more support from the new training provider.
My qualification through my first training provider didn't really help me at all as the college course wasn't very good and the college wasn't very good. but i have now swapped course and the new course should help me with the the correct training to further my role.
There are a few extra-curricular activities that i can get involved in. They have a yoga session every week and they also have some sport teams that have been set up by employees that you can join. they also do lots of event with local school like hosting after school activities.
Yes
I think its a good company to work for that treats its employees correctly. it also is a great way to further your career as they do so many things in so many different working areas from project managing and finance to software engineering and hardware. that also have offices all round the UK and the world which you can have the opportunity to work at.
Be interested in the job you apply for and be polite and truthful. You should also know a little about the company and what different they do and depending on what part of the company you apply for you should also know a little about what they do as well
