Apprentice fitter, daily tasks consist of shadowing a skilled worker/mentor and assisting in carrying out the various tasks that need to be completed. Work on live aircraft so given a high level of responsibilty.
Learn something new every day, large number of training courses i can ask to be put on, some being compulsory i.e. cockpit awareness
Great programme, sometimes let down by organisation of things and being an apprentice means we get told everything last minute.
Feel valued most of the time, there are occational meetings with managers and apprentices to see how well we are coping and what we want to get out of the placement NVQ wise.
Similar to before sometimes let down by the organisation however it is a large company so mistakes are made, placement wise, some placements are really good for example a meeting is held when you start, access to the building is sorted out the week before starting and we are told what is expected of us while on that placement.
Recieve a good amount of support, get feedback from NVQ work even if the work is correct. this is to help us in the future when filling out any more job packs and knowledge questions etc.
Most support being from the mentor, given a good level of respect and understanding seems as the majority of the work is completly new to us. Managers assist towards the start telling us what is required and asking us what we need to get out of the placement. After this contact is kept to a minimum unless we require anything from them or vice versa.
Able to get by and still enjoy doing various hobbies and going out. Traveling to work is not to bad so fuel costs are relativley low.
Many oppertunities to join various clubs or teams, i have participated in various volunatry work which is mainly for charities, get discount at various shops and gyms.
