I work in transport, mainly doing compliance with monitoring the infringements of the HGV drivers but I also supervise warehouse operatives. I need to ensure deliveries are being made and work is being completed. The other main part of my job is assisting with the pool car fleet, maintaining their working condition and topping up any fluids required.
As I'm a new deputy in the transport department everything is new to me so every day is a School day. I have been trained by TruTac to use their website to monitor the drivers' hours and infringements and also I have been trained by Isotrak to use their tracking website to track our drivers and fleet.
I enjoy new challenges and have learnt a little bit about myself in the meantime with my management skills. I find the course knowledgeable with plenty of learning for someone like me learning a new job. This course will make me a better leader so I know I will benefit in the long run.
It's well organised and structured with plenty of support available for me to complete the programme. [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] is my tutor and she's almost always available for help. The visits are planned well in advance and are flexible to our needs. There is plenty of help online too if we need it.
We receive information from [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] about things that are happening in the course and I regularly discuss matters with my section leader [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] about the course. Meetings with my tutor and Masterclasses are prepared with a room and basic refreshments for us. Any problems I know I can discuss these with [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] or [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions].
[This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] the tutor is always there with advice and help for any problems we face. I had a few problems navigating the 3 different websites previously, [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] helped me through this as I couldn't have progressed without the knowledge of the tutor. Help is available on the website also.
I feel that I have leant about the different types of leadership and identified the type that I am. By knowing this I can identify where I am weak and require extra knowledge or training. Knowledge of the different cultures within a workplace have helped me understand some attitudes in the warehouse and how to combat the problematic personalities.
We play football every fortnight which I organise and occasionally we organise a gathering for a meal night out. Annually Aldi organise a 6 a side football tournament which this year I plan to take part in. Occasionally a few warehouse staff arrange a clay-pigeon shoot but personally I haven't taken part in.
Yes
The company pays relatively well and the atmosphere is a light hearted one. Aldi is a company where you can progress from the bottom as I have myself. Opportunities to climb the ladder are there which haven't been available in other companies I have worked before. I have made many friends here so I would recommend anyone that enjoys a good working atmosphere.
I would tell potential candidates that if you are a hard worker that enjoys a good working atmosphere then this is the job for you. Applicants must be self-motivated and take care of their appearance as this is a trait requirement for the business as well-presented workers would look much more professional to the outside world.
