Working to gain a qualification in HNC engineering systems and SVQ level 3. SVQ incorporates workshop training in electrical wiring, welding and pipe fitting. There are different theory subjects in order to learn the background to gain the qualification.
Developed my skill of how to work better as a group with my peer apprentices. Learned many different trade aspects and how to carry them out for my SVQ. Learned how to manage my studying time and work pattern better.
I enjoy different aspects of the course, mostly electrical based but find other subjects under the mechanical department more challenging. SVQ days are the most rewarding as you can achieve a lot in those days.
I feel the programme is relatively well structured. I think there should be more of an opportunity to be able to come into the business, maybe 4 days college 1 day work.
There is not much contact with the business apart from training officer. I sometimes feel visits could be more regular and a chance for more 1 to 1’s.
Training provider is great at helping achieve goals and I feel I am able to get extra support if necessary.
Though I have not yet been to work properly I feel from what I have learned through college I will be ready when it comes to June to enter the business.
