  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is to manage customers and fulfil there requirements of IT. On a day to day basis I am cold calling to find potential new customers as well as ringing into existing customers I currently manage. This also involves writing emails and responding to quote requests that are sent to me. This is a big responsibility as a customer is relying on you.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt many new skills, one being organisation. This job requires me to be organised with my inbox and also with dealing with customers. In addition to this I have also developed my listening skills when being on the phone with customers, taking note of everything they say to me as it could lead to the next sale at softcat.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am really enjoying the new programme. Its something that has exceeded my expectations and never thought I would be able to do. I am really excited to see what the future holds. I have never done anything like this before and coming from sixth form which I didn't enjoy to Softcat which I am really enjoying is good.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is structures very well. We have planned days to complete our apprenticeship which are scheduled well in advance as well has designated time to complete our day to day role of being an account manager. Having this good structure allows the programme to flow well and not be a mess as this could make the apprenticeship more stressful than it needs to be.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive the most support I could. On a day to day basis I am also given support where needed. There is a good balance where I can try and complete something without the support, however if its needed it is there. My apprentice manager helps me on the daily which is good as it progresses my knowledge within the company.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Our training provider offers us a very good amount of support. They are free to email, call or have a webex all the time. This is good as if anything is getting on top of me I am able to reach out to them easily and resolve the issue I am having, it also allows us to build a good relationship with them so it feels natural when talking to them.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The sessions that we have are all relevant to what we do in our day to day role. This allows us to do better in our job and make more sales. If the sessions were not relevant to us it would make no sense but as they do help us everyday it motivates us to go and learn about different sales techniques.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are loads of activities on all the time. This is really good as it keeps the motivation up and is a good way to meet new people and get your face round the business. For example on a Monday there is football after work and also fifa tournaments are frequently run. All these extra activities is what makes Softcat, Softcat.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Softcat to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Because its a great place to work and you are able to achieve a lot with the right support behind you and not feel overwhelmed. Its one so many awards and you will have great fun at the same time. You are earning money while learning which is always a bonus and a good motivator. The culture here is really good.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Softcat?
  • I would just be yourself and also have a drive to earn money and succeed. Having this means that you would fit in perfectly. Without the drive you wont enjoy work and I feel its important to enjoy your job. There are lots of ups and downs but its well worth it as the results of earning money are amazing.
