Chemical manufacturing Review

My job role at the company is a process operator. My day to day activities consist of shadowing and assisting people with their process jobs to get a good in depth understanding of my job. I attempt college two days a week and also spend time doing work toward my NVQ qualification.

I have learnt many new skills, i now have a good understanding of the process job role as a whole and understand the day to day plant running, problem and maintenance work involved. I have developed my understanding of instrumentation and scientific knowledge needed in my job role and have developed as a person by meeting lots of new friendly staff.

I enjoy my programme a lot. I enjoy the different activities each day brings and the many different things I have to do in my apprentischip such as my time studying and time out on the plant trying to learn the process job. I also enjoy meeting all of the people I work with and exploring the new areas of the site I work at.

I believe my programme is very well structured, there is a clear 2 day period put aside for college study and I am given good time to complete NVQ work in a quiet apprentice room with experienced staff nearby to help. There is a good timetable for the yesr offering me a broad experience of all of the plants and even other job roles so I can understand what part different people play in the company.

I am given lots of support from my employer and there is always people there to support me when I need them. I have regular meetings with my manager to tell them about my progress and to ensure I am feeling happy with my job role. We have an apprentice room where we can study and there is a lot of friendly staff and my managers office nearby so I can be supported if I need help with any work I complete.

I am making good progress with my qualification provider, I am getting good marks in my exams through tutor support and my own work. I am also offered safeguarding talks and have had induction meeting with the safeguarding team. There is always someone to hand to give me support if I feel I need it.

I feel my work done in college such as chemistry, technical instrumentation units and mathematics help me to have a better understanding of some of the operations, processed and ways in which we undergo activities in my workplace. I feel that my NVQ work also helps me understand which areas of work relate to different things.

There are a lot of activities I can get involved with. My workplace contributes a lot to charity and the local community and there are many activities to help do this such as group walks and funding events. I also get the opportunity to join sport activities such as the football day and bowling nights which is a great way to socialise with the people I haven’t met yet.

I believe the apprenticeship is very good, I would recommend it as it offers me a good range of qualification at the end, a good experience through the workplace and many of the trips we go to. It also provides me with a secure and good career job at the end of the programme.

Have a mature attitude towards work and safety. It is a very good job if you have a passion towards science and agriculture. You must be prepared to work hard throughout the apprenticeship but it is definatley worth it. You must have an understanding of health and safety and be happy with the job role you are setting out to do.
