I was able to gain a first-hand insight into a solicitor’s career through shadowing and assisting with some of their work. I also had many questions and they were always answered by Hogan Lovells’ staff with great detail. People also gave me advice on a law career, university and more. Another highlight was the negotiation and presentation tasks, as both improved my team work skills and public speaking, which was a definite confidence boost!
One of top skills I have learnt from my PRIME work placement at Hogan Lovells is meeting deadlines; it improved my punctuality by coping with strict time restrictions as we only had 2 days to prepare for a presentation. Another skill I learnt was leadership, when working in teams it was important for the leader to not only direct but listen to other people’s ideas and make compromises. The importance of research and attention to detail were other abilities I discovered too as exploring the diversity of law required thorough awareness. Communication and building relationships were skills I improved on as encountering people I had never met before was a challenge to me however, my PRIME placement at Hogan Lovells helped overcome that concern.
Such a rewarding programme and has kickstarted my law career by providing me with a pathway to becoming a solicitor
I found everyone involved at Hogan Lovells very supportive. They genuinely encouraged us to fulfil our full potential but gave us realistic advice. The guidance I received was universal and will help me to make important career decisions whether it is law related or not.
Very organised. Everyday was planned and structured with something to do every minute of the day. Even lunchtimes were full of opportunities to meet solicitors and network
A reason as to why it was so rewarding is because of how supportive all the staff was, they encouraged me to pursue my passion for law and their guidance was thorough yet understandable. It also gave me a new perspective on my career and is motivating me to achieve the grades I need so the experience was without doubt valuable and worth-while.
As much as my training provider if not, more.
N/A Work experience for ladder to law
I was hoping to gain and practice new skills from doing a work placement at Hogan Lovells such as, team work, negotiating, communicating and many more. I was also hoping to meet new people who I can relate to like, students and prospective law graduates who gave me the chance to build contacts as a part of networking. I managed to gain all of this and more, and my CV definitely stands out with this programme.
Yes
My long term aspiration is to become a solicitor but I was debating between becoming a barrister too. However after my work experience at Hogan Lovells I was able to make a well-thought decision with the advice I received.
I would highly recommend a PRIME placement to others because it is an experience that will open up endless amount of doors. It is a worthwhile chance to gain or improve new skills and make new friends. The placement at Hogan Lovells was so valuable for all and I would love to do it again. It's a perfect programme to immerse one into the field of law.
