My job role is learning what a process operator does on a daily basis I will shadow the operators of the plants to get a good understanding of what they do while they are on their shift. I also learn how the different processes around site work. I am in college two days a week and also during my work week work towards my NVQ qualification
I have learnt many new skills since I have joined my apprenticeship and also developed many of my current ones, some of these being a general understanding of how the process operations work and technical knowledge around the job role. I have also developed skills such as communication with all of the new people I meet around my place of work as I move around the site
I enjoy learning the processes of where I am working and how everything works that the operators are doing. each day always changes with what I will be doing this can change with the subjects I will be doing in college to what I will be doing once I get onto plant during the week
The program itself if very well structured with all of the different things that I am doing. I am in college two days a week doing four different units around my qualification then the other three days I am on site where I am either on plant learning how the process works or doing NVQ work
I am always able to ask for help from my employer if I need anything while I am working, this can be from help learning things on plant or if I have any general questions about how something works. While I am on site I can always ask the different operators that I am shadowing if I need any help learning something. I am always able to ask my employer to go over anything with my college work too if I need any help learning anything
I am making good progress with what I am doing with my college work, we are being taught what we need for the exams which can link in well to what I need to use while I am in my job. My NVQ work is going very well while I am working and helps me to learn the different things i will be doing as my role once I come out of my apprenticeship.
All of the content that I am learning in college I can link back to what I do while I am in work. This can be from the technical side of how different processes work on site to the health and safety side of the job and why things are done to keep people safe on site
There are many different events that go on on site all the time while I am there and the apprentices are always wanted to join in with them, this allows us to learn more about the company itself and also meet new people around the site. All of the different events allow people to feel much more comfortable while we are moving around the site and learning our job role.
Yes
It offers many different opportunities in a global company and also gives the chance to get many helpful qualifications. I also have the opportunity of a solid job role once I have finished my apprenticeship and the chance to learn other possible roles around the company in the future that I could move to.
A mature attitude is needed as it is a skilled job that you will be learning, so you need to be able to listen and understand what you are given so that you can stay safe while you are learning the job role. You should also have a good passion for learning how process science works and chemistry to develop your learning in the future on the site.
