I have moved teams and gained lots of knowledge I have learned how to process invoices and time sheets within the payables and coom team. I have learned how to collect aged debt within the credit control team. also I have recently joined operations management in which I have been working in the control framework this has helped me gain a lot of knowledge from around the different business areas. day to day I connect with people on email and do lots of manual processing.
I have gained lots of IT skills especially in excel and I have up skilled my self in English and maths by taking the exams at the academy. I am learning more each day picking up new skills as I go along which is helping to improve my confidence within the business.
its a fantastic opportunity as I am an older apprentice and I was looking to change career and this was a brilliant way for me to do that. I have done things that I would not of normally done and this has helped me develop and grow within my new career.
In some ways i feel that the apprentice academy can be a little unorganised at times but I always achieve a good outcome and feel I have some support within network rail to help me do this. the structure seems good just not as well explained as it could be.
I have support from the apprentice manager Gemma she has been brilliant helping me change roles and has always offered support with the extra exams I take, my most recent team manager is good in supporting my apprentice work also always allowing time for me to do work or revise.
I feel we could have more support from the apprentice academy as sometimes the tasks we are set are quite vague and we don't know wee to start and need to contact them more to find out extra information that maybe should of been give in the first place.
it does help as there are things needed to be passed off in the qualification that don't necessarily happen within my daily to day role so lots of research goes into it and along the way gaining lots of knowledge that maybe I would not of gained without the qualification.
yes i am aware that there are always extra activities to get involved in football teams running clubs and other social events this is brilliant for people in other parts of the business to meet and for people to stay in touch with colleagues that move on to other teams.
Yes
I would defiantly recommend network rail to a friend as I believe it is a brilliant company to work for with lots of benefits and lots of opportunities to develop within the business as there are so many parts of company to get involved in. I was also recommended to network rail.
My advice when applying to network rail would be prepared to work and you will get rewarded by development opportunities and always be open to the opportunities for development, to get involved in activities and be willing to learn and to always remember to enjoy the time spent at network rail.
